The Results are back.

The Doctor's office just called.  The nodule on my thyroid is benign, and my thyroid function is good.  We now adopt a "keep an eye on it" strategy, wherein I go back in a year for another ultra-sound, and we just watch and wait to see if things change.  Which in some ways is good, no worries about cancer treatments or radiation therapy, no needing more meds.  But it also means that my weight is my own fault, and not a low functioning thyroid.  It would have been nice to have some way to shed the pounds I need to shed without having to work too hard at it, but oh well, such is life.
I added another pic of Sethos because he was so cute when he slept, and I wanted to have it saved to Picassa.  Horus is still somewhat depressed that his best buddy is missing, but he seems to be getting better.

The Word for the Day: Needle

Didn't find out much at my appointment with the Endocrinologist today, but really didn't expect too.  She did tell me that 90% of nodules on the thyroid are not cancerous, which is helpful.  She did do an "aspirant needle biopsy" which entails sticking a long, thing needle into the nodule with the help of an Ultrasound, then drawing out cells for analysis.  Four times.  My throat is a little sore.  I also have to have blood drawn to see if the thyroid is functioning properly.  I could have had that done today too, but the technician couldn't find a good vein, (I was, and still am) a little cold, and the vein don't like to show up when I'm cold.  Which is just as well, because I think I've had enough needles for one day.  Biopsy results should be back within two weeks, blood test results probably sooner, and then we'll know what we're dealing with and how much  (or little) has to be done.  Not so good with the waiting, but I'll live.
I finished the Bat shawl and here is a picture.  If I had it to do over again I'd do another row of Bats, but this works.  Starting another Fedora, wasn't happy with the width of the brim on the last one, which is done and wearable, but still needs a sweatband on the inside.  Such fun.

R.I.P

A few days ago one of my two male kitties, Sethos, decided to stop eating dry food, and had been noticeably losing weight, which is not good when he's already pretty thin.  After a visit to the vet we found out that his kidneys had shut down, and he was dying.  I brought him home for a few hours so that the family and his brother could say goodbye.  ARM decided that he wanted to be there with Sethos at the end, so when Kim got home everyone except Kimber made Sethos's final trek to the Vet.  Sethos spent his last half hour to 45 minutes cuddled up and being petted on ARM's lap and had almost fallen asleep when the Vet came in with the shot.  He barely stirred as the injection was administered.  I think he had made his peace with it and was ready to go.
He was so much fun to have around, and he patiently put up with ARM every night, guarding my overly anxious boy while he slept.  His brother is going to have a hard time adjusting to not having him around.  He will be missed.

Welcome

Welcome to the Rambling Knitter.  (and embroiderer, spinner, quilter, tatter, weaver, etc)  Am starting this blog because switching back and forth between two google  identities, one for blog and one for e-mail is just to much work.  (no, I'm not lazy, but for some reason my computer doesn't want to keep the second accounts password in memory, and neither does my brain) So I'm switching everything to my new account.  Things will carry on much like before. so stay tuned.
